Spring Break Observed

For anyone that was walking around Old Town Pasadena this past Sunday evening, you might have noticed an unusual site - a group of young men singing on the street corner, trying to earn a few dollars.

While each team only earned a couple of bucks for their efforts, this activity - among other activities - was all part of a Spring Break kick-off for the men's ministry of InterVarsity at CSULA - aka "2 Deep." We gathered at my house for a BBQ at 5pm, and didn't end until close to 4am!!! It was an evening of challenges - head-to-head competitions, eating competitions, talent & acting, etc - all vying to gain the most points. The group with the most points at the end of the evening was awarded a set of Laker tickets for an upcoming game in April.
Beyond the tickets, however, it was a great evening of fellowship and bonding. And in the middle of the evening, we took a break from the competition to study James 1 together, talking about tests, trials & temptations. While tired, it was a great time in the word with them. They continue to impress with me with the hard choices that they are learning how to make that put Christ at the center of their lives. Plus, they know how how to have a good time.
