Adoption Update - A Car Seat
One of the common pieces of advice when you are adopting is to not buy stuff until your child is actually placed in your home. The thinking behind this is that life should go on as normal until the baby comes, since you won't often know when that amazing moment will come. I think it is good advice.
Except for the Car Seat. You have to have a car seat when you meet with the social worker. That and some sort of crib or "Moises" as the call it in Spanish. Those are the two things you have to have to be allowed to bring your child home.
So when I saw a used car seat - in great condition - on sale at the Korean-owned copy place that I go to near downtown, it didn't feel like I was throwing sound advice to the wind. Maybe a little impulsive, but at $20 (+ a little baby rocker/play thing), it seemed like a good deal.
Plus, I was able to print out the tickets for our "End the Year Right" Banquet for next week. Mission Accomplished. Baby Seat in tow. And excited wife by the "surprise" I brought home. (Does that mean I'm now entering the "a gift for my kid counts as if it were for me" stage of adulthood? Oh-No.)

Hi Scott,
I really love your verse and your personal mission statement. Great stuff. :)
We adopted both our children. Zac (now 16) was adopted at birth through a private arrangement; Tera (soon to be 10) came to live with us when she was 3 as a foster child and we adopted her when she was 4. I'll be praying for you and your wife. Don't give up--God has a plan for your family. Persevere through the scary stuff and enjoy the rest of the ride. It really is an adventure.
God bless!
Thanks for the encouragement. A friend just gave us a crib yesterday (Thanks Perla & Andrew!!). Now if we (read="I") can just finish the paperwork process...
I love the tender ways in which God cares for us. He not only provides good things, but he is kind of unexpected and very peculiar in the way he does it... just in case you don't notice, he'll orchestrate a situation where a baby car sit and an amzaing bouncing baby holder/chair-- will speak of his deep love, care and forethought for us and our family.
